Thai Public Broadcasting Service (Thai PBS) is a Thailand's first free-to-air national public broadcaster, that needed new headquarters which are equipped with state-of-the-art broadcasting, production and studio facilities. XSiTE Design Studio was invited to participate in a landscape architecture design competition and won the competition to be the landscape architect for the project. The target was to deliver both Thai PBS corporate image reflection as a Thailand's first national public broadcaster and promote all staffs wellness in new headquarter with environmental friendly and energy-saving concepts.
Design Concept and Approaches
An industrial look of architectural design and public broadcasting work itself has inspired us to propose landscape architectural design with " Network of life " concept. That blends in between the dynamic of modern lifestyle network and cozy Thai folk network of life to form the unique character to Thai PBS.
Each outdoors space is created to remind warm welcome Thai agricultural mood in the new way in order to compliment the cool industrial look of the building. While all spaces is connected together with neat modern dynamic energetic network lines to enhance creativity and activeness of people in organization. That could be seen from all routing and pavement design. Starting from public park in front of site through each small garden spaces that placed smoothly between each working space. That helps relieving the stress from 24/7 broadcasting work with green area to promote "Office in the park" atmosphere.
Main Entry
Three huge exposed concrete sign poles are used to make the site outstanding from the highway.
Public Recreation Park
Thai PBS intends to share this park with community as a public recreation park. That is easily approached from the road side. The network of life pattern line are introduce here as a walkway line. That leads the visitors to the reflecting lotus pond to enhance the elegance of project's Administrative building.
Corporate Plaza
The Heliconia psittacorum L.f. cv. Sassy field is used to remind Thai PBS logo around the second set of Thai PBS signs in this area to welcome all visitors.
Thai agriculture landforms are the key landscape feature in corporate plaza with Sugar Palm trees that is a Thai local plant.
Connecting Plaza (Prefunction Court)
This space function is a waiting area and rest area of visitors before going to each function room. Fountain ponds, rustic big wooden benches and shading trees are placed here to create the mood of warm welcome. That is inspired from folk Thai village plaza that always the gathering space for community.
Garden Plaza for Staff
The lush landscape space is created in this area as green view for staffs to relax from hardworking at all time, even from their desks, to emphasize the "Office in the Park" feeling. There is the small amphitheater for internal organization activities located in this area too. That design is inspired from Thai rice field pattern in a modern clean way. Next from this area is the football field that designed to be surrounded with shrubs to promote joy and refresh mood before going to parking lots at the edge of the site.
